CPI leader K Narayana wants the central government to explain why Telangana’s chief minister could not travel to the United States.

The chief minister had planned to visit the country.

Narayana asked whether the government was worried about a possible meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

He said Mamdani was elected by voters and did not lead a banned organisation.

Narayana said there was nothing wrong with two elected leaders meeting.

He argued that chief ministers should be able to travel abroad to seek investment and support development.

He accused the Centre of possibly using travel permission for political reasons.

The central government’s explanation was not included in the statement reported here.
