Spider-Man: Brand New Day historic run slows amid Bollywood competition
A Spider-Man movie called Spider-Man: Brand New Day is playing in theaters in India.
It started out super strong and made a lot of money.
In its first week, it earned ₹334.75 crore.
In its second week, it added another ₹108.65 crore.
In the third week, fewer people are going to see it.
It made ₹5.40 crore on day 15 and only about ₹0.52 crore so far on day 17.
The movie has still done something amazing: it crossed the ₹500 crore gross mark.
That makes it the most successful Hollywood movie ever in India, even beating Avatar: The Way of Water.
Now, two new Hindi movies, Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947, opened during the Independence Day weekend and took away many theater screens.
Because of this new competition, Spider-Man might finish its run at around ₹575 crore gross or more.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day collected ₹443.40 crore net in India over its first two weeks, with ₹334.75 crore in Week 1 and ₹108.65 crore in Week 2.
The film slowed in Week 3, earning ₹5.40 crore on Day 15, ₹3.90 crore on Day 16, and ₹0.52 crore in live Day 17 estimates.
It crossed the ₹500 crore gross mark, becoming the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India and surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water.
New Hindi releases Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 have reduced screen availability for the Marvel film during the Independence Day weekend.
Awarapan 2 opened with around ₹27 crore on Day 1, reported as Emraan Hashmi's biggest opener, while Sacnilk estimated Spider-Man could finish around ₹575 crore gross or more.
The English version contributed ₹244.56 crore and the Hindi version ₹162.27 crore to the India net total, with Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada versions making up the rest.
