Uttar Pradesh raises panchayat assistants’ pay, ends Lucknow protest

Panchayat assistants in Uttar Pradesh had been protesting for better pay and working conditions.

They held a sit-in protest in Lucknow.

The government decided to raise their monthly payment from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.

This is a 50 percent increase.

The government also agreed to reinstate some workers and provide maternity leave and healthcare.

Cases filed against assistants during the protest will be withdrawn.

Officials said delayed payments will now be sent directly to workers’ bank accounts.

After these promises, the protest was called off.
