Bank Fined for Failing to Prevent Fraudulent Transactions
Imagine someone stole your phone and used it to buy things with your bank account.
That's what happened to Archana.
Even though she told her bank, Bank of Baroda (BoB), right away, the bank didn't stop the bad guys.
The thieves spent over Rs 11 lakh!
The bank managed to get some money back, but not all of it.
Because the bank didn't do enough to protect her money, a special court told them to pay Archana back the rest and give her extra money for the trouble.
The court said banks have to protect their customers' money, especially if they're told quickly about a problem.
A customer's phone was stolen, leading to over Rs 11 lakh in unauthorized transactions.
The customer reported the theft and transactions to Bank of Baroda promptly.
BoB recovered some money, but Rs 2.8 lakh remained unrecovered.
The consumer commission ruled in favor of the customer.
BoB was ordered to reimburse the unrecovered amount and pay a penalty.
