Controversy over unopposed wins in Thane civic polls

Controversy over unopposed wins in Thane civic polls

In Thane, India, some leaders are saying that the upcoming city elections aren't fair.

They claim that some candidates from the ruling parties won without any competition because other candidates were not allowed to run.

One leader, Avinash Jadhav, says that election officials did not treat everyone fairly and even used the police to pressure people to quit the race.

He warned that if nothing is done about this, even the mayor's position might be decided without a fair vote.

The city officials say they will look into these complaints.

Other leaders also complained about how the election officers are working, saying that some candidates' papers were unfairly rejected.
