Hyderabad Medical Shops Face Action Over Abortion Drug Sales
Officials checked medical shops in Hyderabad to make sure they were selling abortion pills correctly.
They found that many shops were not following the rules.
Some sold the pills without a doctor's note, did not give receipts, or did not have a pharmacist present.
Because of these issues, over 200 shops are facing penalties.
Abortion pills must be used under the guidance of a doctor.
According to the law, only qualified gynecologists in approved medical facilities can give these pills.
Showcause notices were issued to around 234 medical shops for illegal sale of abortion drugs.
Licenses of about 165 medical shops were suspended due to irregularities.
The state Drug Control Administration (DCA) conducted special raids between August 22 and September 15.
Inspections focused on detecting the unauthorized sale of abortion kits.
Abortion kits are to be used only under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner.
