Bangladesh Puts Tarique Rahman’s India Visit on Indefinite Hold

Bangladesh had planned for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India.

The government has now paused plans for the trip without setting a new date.

Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir said Bangladesh is not in a hurry.

He said the visit will happen at an appropriate time.

Bangladesh wants good relations with India.

However, it does not want to give up its national interests to make the visit happen.

The government wants the first trip to be a separate meeting focused on specific issues.

By 25 August, Bangladeshi officials were no longer discussing dates confidently.
