Takeda Stock Rises on AI-Developed Psoriasis Drug Success
Takeda Pharmaceutical, a big medicine company, had a successful test for a new pill called zasocitinib that helps people with a skin condition called psoriasis.
The pill was made with the help of artificial intelligence.
In the test, more than half of the people taking the pill saw their skin condition almost go away, and about 30% saw it completely disappear.
This is really good news because psoriasis is a long-term skin problem that can be very itchy and scaly.
Takeda bought the rights to this pill from another company called Nimbus Therapeutics for a lot of money.
The pill could be a big seller in the future, and it might help Takeda make up for money they could lose from another medicine that will soon face competition.
The global market for psoriasis treatments is expected to grow a lot in the next few years.
Takeda's AI-developed psoriasis drug zasocitinib showed significant effectiveness in late-stage trials.
Over 50% of patients saw near disappearance of symptoms, 30% saw full disappearance.
Takeda acquired the drug from Nimbus Therapeutics for $4 billion upfront plus potential milestones.
The drug could generate annual sales of ¥150 billion ($964 million) at its peak.
Global psoriasis treatment market is projected to grow from $27 billion in 2024 to $58 billion by 2032.
