Punjab Congress Seeks SIR Suspension Until Assembly Polls End

Punjab Congress Seeks SIR Suspension Until Assembly Polls End

Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring wants a voter-list review paused in Punjab.

He wants the next Assembly election to use the voter lists from the 2024 general election.

He says many first-time voters are having trouble filling out a new registration form.

One difficult requirement asks them to provide details about a parent or grandparent in an older voter list.

Congress fears that many real voters could lose their names from the rolls.

The party says this could make the election less fair.

Punjab’s new draft voter lists have not been released yet.

Warring wants the review to happen after the election with simpler rules and more transparency.
