Delhi Businessman Sentenced for Fake Helicopter Deal
A man named Sanjay Kaushik from Delhi tried to sell special parts for helicopters to Russia.
These parts are controlled by US laws, so he lied and said they were for a civilian helicopter in India.
The US caught him and sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison.
He and his partners tried to send these parts from the US to Russia through India, but the US stopped them.
The parts are used for navigation and control in aircraft.
The US says he did this to make money and worked with people in other countries.
Sanjay Kaushik, a 58-year-old Delhi businessman, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for illegally exporting aviation components to Russia.
He and his co-conspirators purchased an Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) from an Oregon-based supplier, intending to send it to Russia via India.
Kaushik falsely claimed the components were for a civilian helicopter in India to bypass US export regulations.
The AHRS was detained before it could be exported to Russia, and Kaushik was arrested in Miami, Florida, on October 17, 2024.
The case was investigated by BIS Portland, Homeland Security Investigations, and US Customs and Border Protection.
