India Sees Major Energy Storage Tender with 10 GWh Capacity
India is offering a big contract for companies to build batteries that can store electricity for the power grid.
The contract is for 10 gigawatt‑hours, which is a lot of energy.
Companies like Exide, Amara Raja, and Waaree Group are interested.
The government wants the batteries to be made in India, so they look at how much the companies plan to use local parts.
The lowest amount a company can offer is 1 gigawatt‑hour, and the government will pay ₹1,500 for each kilowatt‑hour of storage.
Bidding ends on 13 October 2026, and the winners will be announced the next day.
Government floated 10 GWh grid‑scale energy storage tender under ₹18,100‑crore PLI ACC scheme.
Exide Industries, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, and Waaree Group are among likely bidders.
Minimum bid capacity lowered to 1 GWh, subsidy reduced to ₹1,500/kWh from ₹2,000/kWh.
Technical bid accounts for 80% of evaluation, with 70% based on domestic value‑addition plan.
Bidding closes 13 Oct 2026; bids opened 14 Oct 2026.
