150 Trees at Risk for Road Expansion in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, around 150 old banyan trees are at risk of being cut down to make way for the expansion of the Padegaon to Sharnapur T-point road.
The government has sanctioned Rs200 crore for this project.
Environmentalists are concerned about the loss of these trees, which are around 100 to 150 years old.
They suggest that the trees could be preserved by incorporating them into the dividers while creating another lane.
The administration has sought permission from the Vruksha Pradhikaran to cut the trees, but the exact number can only be determined after the area is marked.
