Shikhar Mohan Builds on Breakthrough Season and Family Cricket Dream
Shikhar Mohan is a young cricket player from Jharkhand.
He had a strong first season playing senior cricket.
He scored many runs and helped his team win the Irani Cup.
His father encouraged him to play because he had wanted to become a cricketer himself but was not allowed to.
Shikhar says years of junior cricket helped him learn to be patient and careful at the crease.
He also learned from experienced players such as Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant.
Now other teams know more about how he plays, so he expects the new season to be harder.
He says he has been working hard to get ready.
Jharkhand batter Shikhar Mohan, 21, returned to Ranchi after winning the Irani Cup with his team.
He scored 60 in the first innings against reigning Ranji Trophy champions Jammu & Kashmir.
Mohan made 613 runs in eight matches in his maiden senior season, including a triple-century and a century against Baroda.
He also scored 85 and 52 in the Duleep Trophy final and credits junior multi-day cricket with developing his red-ball discipline.
His father, Suraj, encouraged his cricket career after his own father prevented him from pursuing cricket; Mohan says he is preparing for greater scrutiny this season.
