Madan Mitra Questioned by ED Over Municipal Recruitment Scam
Madan Mitra is a member of the West Bengal Assembly who represents Kamarhati.
He was asked to come to the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata because they think he might have helped people get jobs in the city by giving money or gold.
He said he did nothing wrong and that he will help the investigators.
He also recently joined a different group inside his party.
The investigation also looked at his wife and sons, and the police searched his houses.
The case is part of a bigger probe that also arrested another party leader for similar job‑scam activities.
Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata for questioning over alleged municipal recruitment irregularities.
The ED had previously served notices to Mitra’s wife and two sons and conducted searches at his premises in July.
Mitra, who recently joined the rebel Trinamool faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, denied any involvement and said he would cooperate with the agency.
The probe concerns alleged cash and gold payments for municipal jobs in Kamarhati and Titagarh, with at least 125 people reportedly secured positions.
The ED’s investigation follows the arrest of TMC leader Sujit Bose for similar recruitment irregularities in South Dum Dum Municipality.
