Priyanka Kakkar Quits AAP, Joins Congress, Praises Rahul Gandhi
Priyanka Kakkar left the Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, and joined the Congress party.
Two other people joined with her: former Uttar Pradesh legislator Shyam Sundar Sharma and journalist Rajat Rakesh Tandon.
Kakkar said she was no longer able to defend AAP because she felt it had changed from its original ideas.
She criticized the use of helicopters for private travel and the appointment of people to senior roles without, in her view, enough grassroots experience.
She said Congress could help make Delhi cleaner, greener, safer and more progressive.
She also praised Rahul Gandhi and asked people to support him.
In 2023, when she was with AAP, she had argued that Congress should not make Gandhi the opposition’s leader again.
Her public position on Gandhi has therefore changed.
