Goa Allows Iron Ore Handling After Years-Long Halt
Imagine there's a big pile of not-so-great iron rocks left over from old mining.
The government is letting a company called Chowgule and Company pick up some of these rocks.
They're allowed to take 300,000 tonnes!
This is the first time since 2012 that a mining company is allowed to handle these leftovers.
The government is also making sure the company has all the necessary permits to do this safely.
Many other companies also want to do this.
The government says there is enough low-grade iron ore in the state to continue mining for five more years.
This means more mining activities are likely in the future.
Chowgule and Company Pvt Ltd has been approved to handle 3 lakh tonnes of low-grade iron ore.
The DMG granted the final approval.
This is the first time since 2012 that a mining company has been allowed to handle the dumps.
The ore is located outside mining leases in Shirgao.
