Delhi Police Tightens FIR Rules for Mob Lynching
The Delhi Police have issued a new rule that says they need special permission from a high-ranking officer to file a police report for cases of mob lynching.
This rule is to make sure that such serious cases are handled carefully and consistently.
The law they are talking about says that if a group of five or more people kills someone because of their race, caste, or other personal characteristics, each member of the group can be punished with death or life imprisonment.
The police have to check each case very carefully and get approval before they can file a report under this law.
They also have to keep records of these cases and review them regularly.
Delhi Police now require approval from the district DCP to register FIRs under Section 103(2) of the BNS for mob lynching cases.
The directive aims to ensure consistency and accountability in the application of the law.
Section 103(2) of the BNS punishes mob lynching with death or life imprisonment, plus a fine.
Investigating officers must prepare a detailed report for approval, summarizing facts and evidence.
Monthly records of such cases will be maintained and reviewed at the district level.
