India and Oman Sign CEPA
India and Oman have signed a big trade deal called CEPA.
This deal will make it easier and cheaper for both countries to trade things like clothes, jewelry, and oil.
India will remove taxes on many products from Oman, and Oman will do the same for Indian products.
This means people in both countries might get more choices and better prices for goods.
The deal also makes it easier for Indian workers to live and work in Oman.
Both countries hope this will help their economies grow and make them better friends.
Some people think the deal is great because it will create new jobs and opportunities.
But others worry that some local businesses might struggle because of competition from cheaper imports.
Overall, the deal is expected to make both countries stronger economically.
India and Oman signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on December 18, 2024, in Muscat.
The agreement aims to boost bilateral trade, investments, and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Oman will remove taxes on 98% of India's exports, covering 99.38% of India's exports to Oman, including textiles, gems, and agricultural products.
India will offer tariff liberalization on 77.79% of its total tariff lines, covering 94.81% of imports from Oman by value, with some products like dates and marbles under a tariff-rate quota (TRQ) system.
The pact includes provisions for enhanced mobility of Indian professionals, with increased quotas and longer stay durations for skilled workers in sectors like healthcare, education, and business services.
