Waqf Property Registration Deadline Ends
The deadline for registering Waqf properties on the UMEED portal ended on 5th December.
The portal was created by the central government to manage and empower Waqf properties.
Only a small fraction of the properties in states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal were registered by the deadline.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board asked for an extension due to technical issues and the short time frame.
The government officials said the portal was functioning well despite the heavy load.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act requires properties to be registered on the portal, and failure to do so may result in having to approach the Waqf tribunal.
The government has assured that those who tried but could not complete the registration process will not face penalties for the next three months.
The deadline for registering Waqf properties on the UMEED portal ended on 5th December.
Only 1.51 lakh properties were registered by the deadline, a small fraction of the total.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board requested an extension due to technical issues and a short time frame.
Government officials stated the portal was functioning well despite a heavy load of uploads.
Failure to register properties by the deadline may require approaching the Waqf tribunal for an extension, but penalties will be waived for the next three months.
