AIIMS Transgender Clinic Sees Rising Demand
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi started a special clinic for transgender people in 2023.
Since then, more and more people have been visiting the clinic.
The clinic has helped around 600 people so far, and they add about 200 new patients every year.
Doctors say this shows that people are becoming more aware and accepting of gender-affirming healthcare.
The clinic has done 139 procedures to help people feel more like themselves.
A doctor named Dr. Rajesh Khadgwat works there and helps take care of the patients.
AIIMS, New Delhi, established a dedicated transgender clinic in November 2023.
The clinic has seen a steady increase in footfall, with 600 registered patients and 200 new patients annually.
As of January 27, the clinic has conducted 139 gender-affirming and refining procedures.
Doctors attribute the rise in demand to growing awareness and acceptance of gender-affirming healthcare.
Dr. Rajesh Khadgwat, an endocrinologist at AIIMS, oversees the clinic and its services.
