Cochin Shipyard Lays Keel for Hybrid UK Service Vessel
Imagine a special boat being built for clean energy jobs far out at sea.
Cochin Shipyard in India is building this boat for a UK company called North Star Shipping.
This boat is super modern because it runs on a mix of batteries and regular power, like a fancy electric car but much bigger!
It has special propellers that let it move around easily.
It also has a safe way for people to get on and off it, even when the sea is rough.
This boat will help fix and take care of wind turbines that make electricity from the wind.
It's like a floating home and workshop for the workers.
Building this boat shows that India and the UK are working together to make cleaner energy for the future.
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) held a keel-laying ceremony for a hybrid electric Service Operation Vessel (SOV).
The vessel is being built for UK-based North Star Shipping (Aberdeen) Limited.
This is the second of two SOVs CSL is constructing for North Star, with each costing approximately ₹500 crore.
The vessel features a hybrid electric system powered by lithium-ion batteries and an electric Azimuth propulsion system.
The SOV is designed to support operations and personnel transfer in the offshore wind sector.
