Contiguous US Records Hottest Month Ever, NOAA Says

Last month, the weather in the United States was extremely hot.

In fact, it was the hottest month ever recorded in the lower 48 states.

Scientists at NOAA, a government weather agency, said the average temperature was almost 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

That is even hotter than the famous hot summer of 1936, which happened during the Dust Bowl.

Every single state in the lower 48 was warmer than usual, at least one degree warmer than average.

The nights were especially hot, which makes it harder for people and animals to cool down and rest.

Scientists say this heat is happening because people burn coal, oil, and gas, which warms up our planet.

They say hot nights and heat waves are signs of climate change.

Experts think we need to stop burning so many fossil fuels and get ready for hotter weather in the future.
