Untreated Sewage Released Into Durgam Cheruvu
A big lake in Hyderabad called Durgam Cheruvu is having problems.
Dirty water and sewage are being put into the lake, making it smell bad.
The lake is also full of a plant called water hyacinth.
The person in charge, Mr. Ranganath, went to see the lake and was not happy.
He said the dirty water should not be going into the lake and asked everyone to fix the problem.
He also said that the lake should be taken care of properly, not just made to look nice.
He told the people in charge to stop the dirty water from going into the lake and to test the clean water to make sure it's safe.
Untreated sewage is being released into Durgam Cheruvu due to STPs operating beyond capacity.
Water hyacinth has spread across nearly half of the lake.
Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the lake and objected to the sewage inflow.
Poor coordination among GHMC, HMWS&SB, irrigation department, Raheja Mindspace, and Ramky was cited as the main reason for the lake's condition.
Ranganath ordered immediate action to stop sewage inflow and directed water samples to be tested by the Telangana Pollution Control Board.
