Bhopal Council Meeting Delayed Amid Traders’ Commercial Tax Protest

Bhopal Council Meeting Delayed Amid Traders’ Commercial Tax Protest

A city council meeting in Bhopal started nearly an hour late.

Traders came to protest taxes and rules affecting businesses in residential areas.

They gave city officials a written request asking for the charges to be withdrawn.

Opposition councillors also protested the commercial tax inside the meeting.

They said the tax should be removed.

Traders separately objected to officials sealing some commercial establishments.

They want the Bhopal Master Plan and a mixed land-use policy to be implemented.

The mayor said property tax had not been increased, but adjusted between wards.

The meeting had one listed agenda item about leasing vacant municipal buildings, followed by questions about civic services.
