Government Refuses RTI Request on Reserved Job Backlog Data
Imagine someone asked the government how many jobs meant for specific groups of people are still empty.
The government said they didn't have the numbers at first.
Then, they said they filled many of those jobs since 2016, but didn't show the exact numbers.
A person kept asking for this information, but the government kept saying they couldn't share it.
However, the government is collecting this information from other departments, but it hasn't shared this with the public.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) refused to provide data on backlog vacancies for SCs and STs in response to an RTI query.
RTI activist Venkatesh Nayak filed the application and subsequent appeal, both of which were unsuccessful.
The DoPT stated the information was not readily available in a compiled form and then claimed over 4 lakh vacancies were filled since 2016, but did not provide specific data.
The DoPT has been collecting online data on backlog vacancies from ministries since 2023.
The government is blocking data on backlog vacancies despite having collected it from ministries and departments.
