CPI(M) MP urges Yogi Adityanath to restore medical college quota

CPI(M) MP urges Yogi Adityanath to restore medical college quota

A rule once said that in four special medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, 70 out of every 100 seats were saved for students from groups that have faced unfair treatment for a very long time.

These colleges were built with special government money meant to help those students.

A court called the Allahabad High Court said this amount was too big.

It told the state to give seats according to an older rule, where no group can get more than half of the seats.

Some people who believed the 70-seat rule was important got worried.

A leader named K Radhakrishnan wrote a letter to the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath.

He asked him to use the law to bring the 70 seats back.

He even told a story about Kerala, a state that fought in court to protect its seats for these students and won.

The leader said taking away the seats would make things harder for children who already face many barriers.
