Chandigarh Mayor Election: BJP vs AAP-Congress in Show-of-Hands Vote
The city of Chandigarh is having an important vote on January 29 to choose new leaders.
This time, instead of secret votes, the councillors will raise their hands to show who they support.
There are two main groups: the BJP and the AAP-Congress alliance.
Both groups have 18 votes each, so it will be a very close race.
The new leaders will be the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor.
The vote is happening because the old way of voting had some problems, and this new method is meant to be more fair and open.
The current Mayor's term ends next year, so the new Mayor will serve until then.
The election for Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh will be held on January 29 using a 'show-of-hands' method.
The BJP and the AAP-Congress alliance each have 18 votes, making the election a close contest.
The current Mayor's term ends on January 29, 2026, and the new Mayor will serve until then.
The election will be conducted by Dr Ramneek Singh Bedi, with votes counted through visual verification and verbal confirmation.
The BJP has welcomed new councillors who recently defected from the AAP, while the AAP-Congress alliance is contesting the polls together.
