Murals Of Native, Migratory Birds Transform Forgotten Corners Of Hong Kong
In a quiet village in Hong Kong, a man named Dominic Johnson-Hill had an idea to paint big, beautiful pictures of birds on old, empty houses.
He wanted to show how amazing birds are and how they travel long distances.
He asked a special artist named Rob Aspire, who is known for painting birds, to help him.
Together, they painted eight different birds on the walls of abandoned houses.
Some of these birds are native to Hong Kong, and others visit during their long migrations.
The murals are so beautiful that people from all over Hong Kong come to see them.
Some people even draw chalk arrows to help others find the bird pictures.
The project is still growing, and more bird murals might be added in the future.
The goal is to make people appreciate and protect the birds and the special places where they live.
Dominic Johnson-Hill initiated the Flock Project to depict native and migratory birds on murals in Wang Tong Village, Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
British artist Rob Aspire, known as 'The Birdman,' was commissioned to paint the murals with intricate detail and expressive soul.
Eight murals have been created, each chosen for its ecological presence, visual harmony, or symbolic resonance with the location.
The murals are painted on abandoned homes, except for one on a 90-year-old stone house atop Sunset Peak, 868 meters above sea level.
The project aims to draw attention to forgotten places and the extraordinary journeys of birds, attracting visitors and fostering appreciation for nature.
