Fadnavis, Gandhi Clash Over Election Commission and Democracy

Devendra Fadnavis and Rahul Gandhi disagreed about how India’s democracy is working.

Fadnavis said Gandhi has an “anarchic” way of thinking.

He accused Gandhi of making people lose trust in constitutional institutions.

Fadnavis also said Gandhi should understand why voters support Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gandhi criticized the Election Commission of India after an order involving the All India Trinamool Congress’s name and symbol.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party and the commission had helped split several political parties.

Gandhi called this “party theft” and warned that votes could also be stolen.

He said protecting free and fair elections is a responsibility shared by all parties and voters.
