WHO warns of intensifying Ebola outbreak in DR Congo
The World Health Organization says that a dangerous disease called Ebola is spreading quickly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It started in one small area but now is in 49 health zones across five provinces.
By the end of July, more than 3,600 people in the country had the disease and about 1,600 had died.
This is the biggest Ebola outbreak ever seen in the country.
The WHO and local health workers are trying to stop it by testing more people, treating patients, and telling communities how to stay safe.
They also warn that the disease could spread to neighboring Uganda, so both countries need to watch closely.
The WHO says there should be no travel bans, but governments should work harder to control the outbreak.
WHO warns Ebola outbreak in DRC is spreading at an exceptional pace.
Cases have expanded to 49 health zones across five provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut‑Uélé, and Tshopo.
As of July 30, DRC reported 3,605 confirmed cases and 1,587 deaths; worldwide totals are 3,626 cases and 1,589 deaths.
The outbreak is the largest recorded in DRC, surpassing the 2018‑2020 outbreak of 3,317 cases.
WHO calls for scaling up response activities and cross‑border surveillance, but does not recommend travel restrictions.
