Asim Munir Becomes Pakistan's First Chief of Defence Forces
Field Marshal Asim Munir is now the most powerful army chief in Pakistan's history.
He is the first person to hold the new position of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), which gives him control over the army, navy, and air force.
This change happened because of the 27th Amendment to Pakistan's Constitution.
Before this, there was a different role called Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), but it has been removed.
Munir's new job makes him very powerful, and some people are worried it might cause problems in the future.
He will stay in this position until at least 2027, and maybe longer.
Some experts think this change was made to help Munir and the politicians, not necessarily to make the military stronger.
Field Marshal Asim Munir became Pakistan's first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on November 27, 2023.
The CDF position was created by the 27th Amendment to the Constitution, abolishing the previous role of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Munir now has control over the army, navy, and air force, making him the most powerful military leader in Pakistan's history.
His term is five years, extendable, and he will remain in this position until at least 2027.
The amendment has raised concerns about institutional imbalance and potential command-and-control problems, especially regarding nuclear assets.
