Ganges Grandmasters reach GCL final despite loss; Pipers await

The Global Chess League is a team competition where chess players earn points for their teams.

On Saturday, Ganges Grandmasters lost their match but still reached the final.

They needed only one game point from their match to qualify.

Ian Nepomniachtchi drew with Viswanathan Anand, helping them reach that target.

Alpine APL Pipers lost 11-6 to the Triveni Continental team.

Alireza Firouzja also beat Magnus Carlsen, giving the Pipers’ opponents an important win.

The Pipers still have a chance to reach the final.

Their fate depends on the result of the last league match between FYERS American Knights and CheQ Mumba Masters.
