Myanmar Frees U.S. Businessman After Rare U.S. Visit

Myanmar Frees U.S. Businessman After Rare U.S. Visit

Myanmar released Adam Castillo, an American businessman and former U.S. Marine.

He had been held since June after a business dispute.

Myanmar accused him of misusing a business organization for lobbying in Washington.

Castillo’s supporters said the accusations were not valid.

A group called Global Reach said people connected to President Donald Trump’s administration quietly helped seek his release.

U.S. officials also traveled to Myanmar and met with its military-backed government.

Myanmar released and deported Castillo from its capital, Naypyitaw.

The visit was unusual because the United States has mostly avoided direct talks with Myanmar’s government since the 2021 coup.
