Tirupati Civic Body Acts to Curb Speeding on Garuda Varadhi Flyover
There have been too many accidents on a bridge in Tirupati called Garuda Varadhi, and some people have even died.
The city's leader, Commissioner N Mourya, met with city planners and police to figure out how to make it safer.
They think people are driving too fast, especially around a sharp turn that's known to be tricky.
To fix this, they plan to add speed bumps, more signs to tell drivers to slow down, and make the turns easier to see.
They also want to manage traffic better on and under the bridge.
A safety check done before had already warned that the bridge was dangerous.
Now, officials are being urged to act fast before more accidents happen.
Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner has ordered intensified safety measures on the Garuda Varadhi flyover to combat rising accidents.
The Commissioner held a review meeting with Smart City Project, Police, and Engineering officials to discuss frequent mishaps.
Recent accidents, including three fatalities in the last 20 days, have raised concerns, with a dangerous bend near Lakshmipuram Junction identified as a major hazard.
Proposed safety installations include rubber speed strips, more warning signboards, blinkers, and improved visibility at turns.
A May 2025 safety audit had previously flagged the flyover as a traffic risk due to poor upkeep and inadequate preventive measures.
