Cauvery Calling Plants 1.36 Crore Trees, Aiming to Revive River
Imagine a river, the Cauvery, that is in trouble, with less water than it should have.
To help the river, a group called Cauvery Calling is planting lots and lots of trees!
They planted over a crore trees in just one year, and the goal is to plant way more.
Farmers are growing trees on their land instead of just crops.
This is good because trees help the soil, protect against climate change, and bring in more money.
The project has a women-run nursery that grows the little trees and sends them to farmers, and there are people who help farmers learn how to plant and care for the trees.
Cauvery Calling planted 1.36 crore saplings in the last year.
The initiative has planted over 12 crore trees since its launch.
The project promotes tree-based farming to combat environmental degradation.
Around 2.38 lakh farmers have adopted tree-based agriculture.
A women-run nursery in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, supplies subsidized saplings.
