Allahabad HC Slams UP Govt Over Delayed Kumbh Stampede Compensation
Imagine a big religious gathering where people were hurt.
Some people died in a stampede.
The government said they would give money to the families who lost loved ones.
However, a court found out that the government hasn't given the money to one of the families yet, even after months.
The court is upset because it feels the government should help these families quickly and with respect.
The court is also concerned that the bodies were given to families without proper examinations to figure out how they died.
Now, the government must explain what's happening with the money and the bodies.
Allahabad HC criticized UP government for delay in disbursing ex-gratia compensation after a Maha Kumbh stampede.
The court noted that four months passed without compensation payment to a petitioner.
HC expressed concern that the victim's body was handed over without autopsy.
The court said it was the State's duty to pay compensation with 'utmost grace and dignity'.
The court has directed state authorities to file an affidavit detailing the claims and their status.
