Modi Praises Anti‑Paper Leak Bill, Promises Crackdown
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a new law has been passed to stop people from stealing exam papers.
The law makes it a crime to leak papers, and people caught can go to jail for up to 10 years and pay a big fine.
The government will also set up special courts that finish cases quickly.
Modi also said the government has already set up a team to look into the problem and will use technology to help.
The law was approved by both houses of Parliament and will become official once the President signs it.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
The bill raises prison terms for paper leaks to 5–10 years and fines up to ₹50 lakh for individuals, and up to ₹10 crore for organized crime.
Fast‑track courts will be established, with investigations to finish within two months and trials within three months.
Government measures include a task force, increased use of technology, and state consultations to curb exam irregularities.
The bill passed the Lok Sabha on July 29 and the Rajya Sabha on July 30, awaiting President Droupadi Murmu’s assent.
