Amit Shah Sets 2029 UCC Rollout Target Across 21 States
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said 21 states led by the BJP or its allies should introduce the same personal-law rules before 2029.
These rules are called the Uniform Civil Code, or UCC.
They could cover marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption.
Shah said some states have already introduced or moved toward the UCC.
He also said new criminal laws had helped improve convictions in several states.
Shah described government actions on terrorism, Kashmir and Naxalism as successes.
He said officials were still discussing how to prepare an NRC in Manipur.
He also promised to find and deport people the government considers illegal infiltrators.
Shah said an anti-drug campaign would be expanded across India.
Amit Shah said BJP-led NDA governments in 21 states would introduce the Uniform Civil Code before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
He said the UCC would create common personal laws covering issues such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption, while citing the abolition of triple talaq.
Shah credited the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita with strengthening criminal justice and claimed that several states recorded a 30% increase in conviction rates in one year.
He highlighted the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, actions against Naxalism, North-East peace agreements and military operations as government achievements.
