Gujarat Sees Repolling and Gram Panchayat Elections
In Gujarat, there were two sets of elections.
One was a re-vote in a few areas after the original vote had some problems.
About 81% of voters showed up to vote again.
Separately, elections are planned for local village councils, where people will choose their leaders.
Over 3,894 villages are participating, and this is the first time since the government changed rules about who can be a leader, including a new rule that allows 27% of the spots for people from OBC communities.
Repolling in two Visavadar polling stations saw an 81.11% voter turnout.
Repolling was ordered by the Election Commission, though the reason was not disclosed.
The initial bypolls for Visavadar and Kadi seats had voter turnouts of 56.8% and 57.9%, respectively.
Gram panchayat elections are scheduled for over 3,894 gram panchayats.
Elections will be held for 3,541 gram panchayats; 1,023 have been declared uncontested or vacant.
