IITs Plan Leadership Training for Future Directors
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are planning a special training program to help some of their teachers become future leaders of the IITs.
This program will last two years and will be led by IIT Bombay.
The government is looking at this plan and might also ask the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to help.
Only the best teachers with strong academic and research skills will be chosen.
The program will teach them important skills for leadership, like how to work well with others and make good decisions.
The goal is to prepare these teachers to become directors of the IITs in the future.
IITs plan a two-year leadership training programme for high-performing faculty members.
The programme will be led by IIT Bombay and may involve support from IIMs.
Selection will be based on academic and research performance, student development, and strategic mindset.
The programme will cover behavioural, functional, and domain competencies.
IIT directors are appointed through a rigorous process involving multiple stages and final approval by the President of India.
