Mumbra Train Accident: FIR Filed Against 2 CR Engineers Citing Negligence
A terrible train accident happened near Mumbra station on June 9, 2025, that sadly resulted in five people losing their lives and nine others getting hurt.
The police have accused some engineers who work for the train company of not doing their jobs correctly.
The police believe that heavy rain caused water to clog the drains, which washed away the gravel under the tracks and made the ground sink a little.
Even though they knew this was dangerous, the engineers allegedly did not fix the tracks.
They also allowed trains to go faster than they should have in that area.
Investigations found problems with how the tracks were welded together, the space between the tracks was too small, and the tracks were not even.
The police think these mistakes by the engineers led to the accident.
The train engineers' union, however, believes the FIR against the engineers is unfair.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has filed an FIR against two Central Railway engineers and senior officials following a fatal train accident near Mumbra on June 9, 2025.
The accident, which resulted in five deaths and nine injuries, is attributed by the GRP to six key lapses in track maintenance and safety protocols.
Alleged failures include choked drains leading to track instability, improper welding, reduced track spacing, and a caution order allowing excessive speed (75 kmph instead of 69.4 kmph).
Investigations by the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) and the GRP formed the basis for the FIR, citing negligence and failure to conduct timely maintenance.
The engineers are booked under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and endangering life, a move protested by the railway workers' union as unjust.
