Kerala Urges Centre to Release Pending Samagra Shiksha Funds
The Kerala Education Minister has asked the central government to release the money that is due for the Samagra Shiksha programme.
This programme helps with school education from pre-school to class 12.
The minister said that the central government has not given the money for almost two and a half years.
The state has not received Rs 1,158 crore, which includes funds for students with disabilities and other essential needs.
The state government has been managing the programme and paying salaries even without the central funds.
The Samagra Shiksha programme also supports 169 Autism Centres and provides free services like speech therapy and physiotherapy.
Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty urged the Centre to release pending funds for the Samagra Shiksha Kerala programme.
The Centre has not released funds for nearly two and a half years, with only Rs 92.41 crore released out of Rs 456 crore allocated for 2025-26.
The state is due Rs 1,158 crore, including Rs 440.87 crore pending since 2023-24 under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Funds cover essential needs like free uniforms, textbooks, hostel expenses, and travel allowances for SC/ST students, as well as support for migrant labourers' children and school maintenance.
