Mumbai Malad STP Upgrade On Track
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is upgrading the Malad Sewage Treatment Plant to handle more waste.
The new plant will clean 454 million liters of sewage every day, with extra cleaning for 227 million liters.
It will use special technology to make the water cleaner before it goes into the sea.
This will help the water and marine life near Dahisar, Borivli, Kandivli, Malad, and Goregaon.
The project is expected to finish by July 2028.
The BMC is also building six other STPs around Mumbai to make the city's sewage treatment better.
The Malad STP upgrade is on track for completion by July 2028, despite delays due to land acquisition and environmental clearances.
The new plant will treat 454 MLD of sewage through secondary treatment and 227 MLD through tertiary treatment using Sequential Batch Reactor technology.
The upgraded plant will improve coastal water quality and marine ecology in Dahisar, Borivli, Kandivli, Malad, and Goregaon.
The BMC is constructing seven STPs across Mumbai with a combined treatment capacity of 2,464 MLD, to be completed by 2028.
The total cost for the seven STP projects is Rs. 27,309.83 crore, awarded in May 2022.
