Tanzania President Names New Prime Minister After Disputed Election
Tanzania's leader, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has chosen a new prime minister named Mwigulu Nchemba.
This happened after an election that many people say wasn't fair, and it led to protests.
Some groups believe many people died during these protests, with estimates ranging from hundreds to over a thousand.
The president, however, says the election was fair and defends how her government handled things.
The parliament has approved Nchemba's appointment.
Nchemba has been a loyal member of the ruling party and has held various government positions before.
Tanzania is also focusing on growing its economy, partly through building new infrastructure like roads and power plants.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan nominated Mwigulu Nchemba as Tanzania's new prime minister.
Nchemba, a former finance minister and loyalist to President Hassan, was approved by parliament in a near-unanimous vote.
The nomination follows a disputed presidential election on October 29, which opposition groups claim was rigged.
Clashes during protests against the election results have led to conflicting death tolls, with rights groups estimating hundreds to over 1,000 deaths.
President Hassan has defended the fairness of the election and her human rights record, while the government disputes the opposition's death toll figures.
