SEBI Streamlines Mutual Fund AMC Applications, Keeps Strict Eligibility Checks

SEBI Streamlines Mutual Fund AMC Applications, Keeps Strict Eligibility Checks

SEBI has made it simpler for companies to apply to start mutual fund asset management companies.

Instead of filling out several forms in stages, applicants will submit one application.

However, the new process does not remove SEBI’s eligibility checks.

Applicants must provide information about their money, owners, business activities and regulatory history.

They must also explain how they will manage conflicts, technology and investor complaints.

Some applicants need five years of financial-services experience and average annual profits of at least ₹10 crore.

Another route requires an experienced management team and a ₹150 crore contribution locked in for five years.

Investors should remember that a new AMC does not yet have its own performance history.

They can instead study the sponsor, fund managers and disclosures before investing.
