Himachal Pradesh Minister Balances Development with Local Deities' Sentiments
Imagine you want to build a new playground in your town.
A leader in Himachal Pradesh, a state in India, said that building new things is good for the town's growth.
But, he also said it's very important to respect the local beliefs and the special spirits (called 'deities') that people in the area worship.
He explained that before building anything important, like a ropeway to a special mountain shrine, they must ask the local deities and the people who believe in them if it's okay.
He also mentioned that many new roads are being planned to help people in villages get to places easier.
Sometimes, building these roads can be tricky if the land belongs to someone, so he asked for help from the community.
The leader also assured that some money owed to builders is being paid, and they are checking if the work on roads is being done well.
Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated that development projects must consider local religious sentiments and traditions.
He emphasized seeking consent from local deities before undertaking construction in sacred areas, citing the Bijli Mahadev Ropeway project.
A delegation had previously met with Union Minister JP Nadda to express resentment against the proposed Bijli Mahadev Ropeway.
The Centre has given in-principle approval for 294 road proposals totaling 1,538 km, costing Rs 2,271 crore under PMGSY Phase-IV.
The minister addressed issues of pending contractor payments and assured quality checks for road works, while acknowledging that 700 habitations still lack road access.
