Surat Priests Get Help from Brahmins During Ganesh Chaturthi
During Ganesh Chaturthi, the city of Surat sees a huge number of Lord Ganesh idols installed.
This year, there were over 81,000!
Because of this, they needed more priests to help with all the ceremonies.
So, priests from other cities like Ahmedabad and Vadodara stepped in to help.
These priests, called Karmakandi Brahmins, perform the rituals at the temples and in people's homes.
They've come to Surat for a special time to help with the celebration, as the local priests were feeling overwhelmed.
They will stay in rented houses or guesthouses for the 10-day event.
Surat experienced a shortage of priests due to a record number of Ganesh idol installations.
Karmakandi Brahmins from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and other areas came to assist.
These Brahmins perform pujas at pandals and private residences.
The assisting priests are handling multiple pandals and individual home pujas.
The priests typically stay in rented accommodations or guesthouses during the festival.
