VOC Port Exports Construction Materials to Maldives Surge
The VOC port in India is sending a lot more construction materials to the Maldives.
This is because the Maldives is building a lot of new things, like resorts and infrastructure.
In 2024-25, the port sent over 11 lakh tonnes of materials.
This year, they are already at nearly 5,49,000 tonnes, which is a big jump.
India has also allowed more exports to the Maldives, including items like stone, sand, and other construction essentials.
This trade helps with projects in the Maldives and fits in with India's plans to help its neighbors grow.
VOC Port in Thoothukudi saw a surge in construction material exports to the Maldives.
Exports in 2024-25 reached 11.01 lakh tonnes, up from the previous year.
The port handled 5,48,994 tonnes of construction materials in 2025-26 (up to August).
India approved record export quotas for essential commodities to the Maldives.
