New 2026 Pickleball Rule Eliminates Safety Net
Pickleball is a sport where players hit a ball over a net.
A new rule that starts on January 1, 2026, takes away a safety net that used to help players win if they made a mistake.
Now, if either team scores a point, the game ends, no matter who served.
This means if a player hits the ball into the net while the other team is ahead, the match stops right away.
The rule is meant to make it harder for players to come back from behind.
Safety net removed effective Jan 1, 2026.
Either team can win on any point regardless of serve.
A point counts the same whether served or returned.
If a serve hits the net while opponent leads, match ends immediately.
Rule changes make comebacks harder.
