Government Approves AGR Dues Relief for Vodafone Idea

Government Approves AGR Dues Relief for Vodafone Idea

The Indian government has approved a relief package for Vodafone Idea, a telecom company.

This package freezes the company's statutory dues at ₹87,695 crore until 2031-32 and allows payment to be rescheduled over 10 years.

The government owns 49% of the company, so this move makes their investment more secure.

However, experts say this relief might not make banks more confident in lending to Vodafone Idea.

The company's stock price has actually gone down since the announcement.

Banks are still cautious because the company's debt is not considered top-quality, even though it was upgraded in April 2025.

The company says it will try to raise funds from banks once the government officially communicates the relief details.

The relief comes after a long legal battle and policy uncertainty that has affected the telecom sector.
